Google Responsive Display Ad Guidelines

TLDR;

  • Headlines: Up to 5, 30 characters each
  • Descriptions: Up to 5, 90 characters each
  • Logo: Up to 5, at least one horizontal and one vertical
  • Images: Up to 15, at least one horizontal and one vertical

 

Headlines

You can upload up to 5 different headlines, of 30 characters each for your responsive display ads. To ensure maximum performance, make sure your different headlines each say something unique. Be informative, and spell out your value proposition clearly.

Consider the following:

  • Punctuation at the end of your headline isn’t necessary
  • Avoid duplicating the text from your description
  • Don’t use your business name in the headline

Descriptions

You can create up to 5 descriptions for your brand or product, of up to 90 characters each. The description usually accompanies a headline (described below) and should be written to complement your headlines. Use the description to provide additional detail to articulate your value proposition.

Logos

You should always include logos, which should be the following size for Display Ads:

Landscape:

  • 4:1 aspect ratio
  • 1200 x 300 pixels recommended
  • Minimum of 512 x 128 required

Square:

  • 1:1
  • 1200 x 1200 pixels recommended
  • Minimum of 128 x 128 pixels required

Like your standard images, both options also have a max file size of 5120 KB, and should be in GIF, JPG, or PNG file types. You should upload at least one square logo and one landscape logo, and you can upload a total of five.

Keep the following in mind when you provide a logo:

  • Be sure that your logo is centered and cropped carefully.
  • Avoid adding any small text or additional “flair” with the logo.
  • White backgrounds are acceptable, but it’s recommended to use a transparent background.
  • Any white space or padding should not exceed 1/16th the size of the logo. For example, if your logo is 400×400 pixels, your padding should be no wider than 25 pixels.

Images

The ideal sizes for Google Responsive Display Ad Images include:

Landscape:

  • 1.9:1 aspect ratio
  • 1200 x 628 pixels recommended
  • Minimum of 600 x 314 pixels required

Square:

  • 1:1
  • 1200 x 1200 pixels recommended
  • Minimum of 300 x 300 pixels required

Both options have a max file size of 5120 KB, and should be in GIF, JPG, or PNG file types.

You need a minimum of two high quality images, and at least one landscape and one square image are required. You can choose up to 15.

Avoid using the following:

  • Blurred images
  • Skewed/distorted images
  • Images that include a mirror image
  • Washed out colors, inverted colors, excessive filters
  • Images with borders
  • Collage images
  • Overlaid text on top of your images, which can be hard to read at smaller sizes.
