We were pretty lazy yesterday (as far as promoting the contest goes). We did a couple of posts on twitter, and spent some time approving and replying to requests. Overall, the reaction to the contest seems to be positive. It’s pretty cool seeing our company in so many different posts.
Late yesterday, we setup a little Facebook ad to attract some additional attention from outside our network. Preliminary stats are showing the CPM is about $.17 and we set a small cap of $10/day. We set the targeting on the ad to be limited to people with interests in Marketing, Apple, and iPads.
The reaction on LinkedIn hasn’t been all that great. Many of our contacts use Facebook and Twitter and it seems that people prefer to participate in those forums. We will look at doing an inexpensive LinkedIn ad to see if that helps to drive any traffic.
The numbers continue to increase and probably could have been stronger with more active promotion. Even so, traffic to the site in general is up about 6x from its normal levels.
Lessons Learned
There seemed to be some confusion on Facebook where people would post the status message on our Facebook page as opposed to their own. Since this doesn’t really achieve the viral effect we’re looking for, we needed to let everyone know that they needed to post the message on their Facebook wall.
This could be due to a couple of things, either confusion on the entrants part, thinking they were on their own page, or lack of clarity in the rules. We noticed that once one person did it, several others followed, so it is something we need to keep an eye on. We addressed it with a simple message on our wall reminding people that they needed to update their own walls with the appropriate message.
As for follower count, here’s where we’re at after 2 days…
